I had a collection of button that filled my laundry room wall, pinned to a giant piece of cloth. I lost the box during my last move, sadly. (I always seem to lose at least one box each time I move and it always seems to be one full of keepsakes). As for protests, there's a new group called Seniors for Climate that operates out of Penticton but I think they do stuff in Kelowna too. Maybe we can both get our butts, buttons and Tilley hats into gear for their next rally.

I love your collection. What will you do with it? I agree that buttons are a relic of a bygone era but I wear an old CBC button on my bag and every now and then some one comments on it. I'd rather wear that button than a Canadian flag.

Ha ha! I love that you carry a CBC button on your bag! Maybe I should follow your lead and pin a button or two on my shopping bags. Meanwhile, I'm still keeping them all in my little box. Can't quite bear to throw them out!

Razzle Dazzle was a late afternoon CBC tv program for kids back in the day, starring Howie the Turtle and the human hosts of the show Alan Hamel and Michele Finney. I guess you could "send in" and get a "membership" or something that included a button. Maybe you were too young to have watched it or watched it but didn't retain any recollection as you were too little to store memories yet.

I vaguely remember the name now... though I don't think I watched it. The first show I remember watching was Romper Room and then Klondike Mike- an Edmonton show-- cartoons were broadcast and the studio audience interacted with "Klondike Mike" and a lucky kid or two got to "pan" for a gold nugget in a sandbox. That nugget was the thing I most wanted...!

All well and good, nicely written and thought-provoking, but do you have a Razzle Dazzle button? (I wonder if I still have mine. I remember when I got mine in the mail it was quite a bit smaller than I anticipated. I too was small though.)

What IS a Razzle Dazzle button?? It sounds like something we would all have coveted!

I have a box of buttons too. I'm not quite sure what to do with them but my first stop will probably be the local museum to see if they want any. There is history in every one, as you have shown in your essay!

A great project for the Museum Archives I think! A collection of buttons from protests over the years!
