I loved this piece, Nancy. Long live the drawer of occasionally useful treasures. In addition to the usual assortment of odd screwdrivers etc, my parents’ junk drawer contained a small troll doll with flowing blonde hair that I’d take out and look at from time to time. Ominous?
I just pulled my poetry fridge magnets out again about a month ago as they, too were in my messy drawer. I've been having fun with them. As for the 'fact' following in fiction's footsteps, yes, very scary. My niece works for the VA in the US and has spent weeks having to cross out the word 'woman' from all her records. Bloody scary.
excellent question - this mystery was never explained...
Another stellar, thought-provoking piece!
Thanks!

Hmmm, now why did your parents' have the troll?

Oh god, Glenna. Woman! Handmaid's Tale or what?
